There is a big problem at your local zoo… the animals are very unhappy! They have outgrown their cages and are bored by their basic, concrete surroundings. In these lessons students will learn about engineering, mathematics, animals, and habitats while advancing their literacy skills through a variety of read alouds. They will work as zoo engineers and zoologists while using the EFK Engineering Design Process to design and build solutions to a variety of engineering challenges.

Motion Commotion introduces students to stop motion animation through a variety of creative, hands-on challenges. Lessons use readily available materials like modeling clay, sand, construction paper, craft supplies, and small props. Students also work with digital tools such as the Stop Motion Studio app to capture their animations and add sound effects.

In this camp, students will become mechanical engineers that have been hired to design the ultimate playground in their community. Playgrounds are packed full of simple machines such as levers, wheels and axles, inclined planes, and pulleys. In these lessons students will learn about the simple machines they encounter every day at the playground, while advancing their literacy skills through a variety of read alouds. They will tackle fun and engaging challenges while using the EFK Engineering Design Process. We can’t wait to play!

Can’t get better than that! During this camp, students will divide into competitive theme park teams. They will challenge other teams in specific engineering-related contests with the goal of creating the most fantastic and thrilling theme park experience. At the end of the week, only one team will emerge as the winner and will be granted the prestigious honor of creating the world’s next great amusement park for children ages 0-99 to enjoy for summers to come!

During this lesson students take on the role of industrial engineers as they design a machine that sorts balls of different sizes Working with a partner, they use simple materials to build , test and refine a sorting system. This hands-on challenge encourages creative problem solving and introduces students to key concepts in industrial engineering.
Students will also build a conveyor belt system. Using basic materials, they explore how rollers and surfaces affect movement and efficiency . Students test, refine and improve their designs as they work to create a functional conveyor belt that can transport objects across a set distance. This lesson introduces key engineering principles and highlights how machines improves processes in industrial settings

Marble Roller Coaster – Mechanical Engineering

Students will have a blast exploring the basic mechanics of roller coasters during this camp. Student pairs will design and construct various marble roller coaster tracks. They will experiment adjusting the height of the start of the track to achieve various results, including a loop! By the end of the day, they will be familiar with gravity, potential energy, and kinetic energy. This is a fun and challenging workshop they won’t want to miss!
